A Study on the Subjective and Objective Sleep of the Insomniac Adults

|
Background: Multidimensional evaluation including subjective quality of sleep and objective measure is important to identify the problem in sleep. The purpose of this study was to identify(explore) the subjective and objective sleep, and their correlation of the insomniac adults.
Methods: The subjects were 30 insomniac adults who were eligible and agreed to participate in this study. The subjects were evaluated for their subjective and objective sleep using PSQI(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) and polysomnography. The data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0 program, which was used for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U test¿Í Kruskal-wallis test, Kendall tau rank correlation coefficient.
Results: The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) Study participants¡¯ PSQI total mean score was 6.87. 2) 76.76% of the participants was evalutating PSQI over 5. 3) there was a significant positive correlation among BDI and PSQI total mean score. 4) there were no significant correlation between the subjective and objective sleep.
Conclusions: These results suggested that nurses should evaluate the sleep problem both subjective and objective aspect for better intervention of the insomniac adults.
